Burma’s Dictator Tells Another Lie
Under heavy International pressure, the military Junta in Burma has announced that it is taking steps towards the “Road Map” that will take the country towards Democracy and free elections. They’ve created a 54 member committee that will be in charge of drafting the long-awaited constitution. No starting date for the committee was announced.
It appears that the people of Burma will not be holding their breath, most believe it is just another trick to keep the Junta in power. History shows that the Military Junta has rejected outside political pressure for years. They have been working on this “Road Map” for about a decade, since 1993 they have so far been able to complete Stage I , which was to draw up Guidelines for the new constitution. This “Road Map” is supposed to end in Free Elections at an unspecified future date. At this rate Burma’s dictator Than Shwe will be dead, and it may not even matter.
