China Jealous Of The Dalai Lama

The Dalai Lama received the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honor that can be given to a civilian, at today’s meeting in Washington with President Bush and other members of Congress. “Calling the Dalai Lama a “universal symbol of peace and tolerance, a shepherd to the faithful and a keeper of the flame for his people,” Bush presented the medallion to the Dalai Lama.”

Apparently China was not too happy that this honor was bestowed on the Peaceful One. They slammed the United States for giving him this honor “calling the ceremony an affront to the budding relations between the countries.”

Bush said the ceremony was not meant to piss off China, but made repeated references to religious oppression. “Americans cannot look to the plight of the religiously oppressed and close our eyes or turn away,” Bush said.

Beijing continues to accuse the Dalai Lama of trying to put forth his hidden agenda of separation and restoration of Tibet’s old social political system. “Such a notion is unfounded and untrue,” said the Dalai Lama, brushing off the Chinese tirade, as “that always happens.”

In related news, in New Delhi, 30 or so protesters stormed the Chinese Embassy, because of the recent Chinese Government order that Beijing must approve all of Tibet’s spiritual leaders, known as Lamas. Traditionally, the Lamas were always chosen by select Tibetan Monks. An apparent attempt to undermine the Tibetan Culture and the influence of the Dalia Lama.
