Could this be the turning point in Iraq?

24 October 2007

iraq.jpgAccording to American Commanders, the drastic drop in US military and Iraqi Civilian deaths is due to the US Troop increase and the Iraqi surge against al-Quaeda and Shiite militia extremists.

Over the last four months, Shiites and Suni citizens have been joining the Americans in the fight against these extremists. Commanders attribute the drop in casualties to the participation of the citizen force, which help round up militants. The people of Iraq are coming around to the idea that the presence of Americans and the Allied Forces mean hope for a future.

Despite this progress the UN Refugee Agency estimates that 1000-2000 Iraqis leave their homes daily for safer areas in Iraq or cross the border into neighboring nations. And the amount of civilians and soldiers wounded is not kept track of so well.

Progress seems to be slow, but hopefully for all a peak has been reached.
