France’s Divorce Rate Up By One
Frances President Nicolas Zarkosy and First Lady Cecilia have called it quits. After months of speculation by the public and the press, it was announced today that their divorce is finalized.
Although a first for a French President, their rocky relationship was suspect for a time now, evidenced by her absence at official occasions and her failure to vote in the second round of the presidential election in May.
During his run for Presidency, he used her influence as First Aid, a position he bestowed on her when he was still Interior Minister to select his Cabinet. But the pressures of being First Lady, a post that she did not relish may have done their relationship in.
The announcement came on the same day that his Presidency is being frontally challenged by a massive Transit Strike, protesting his pension reforms.
