Indifference is Complicity: China Sells Arms To Sudan While We Do Nothing…
As long as China is held without reproach for selling weapons to the Government of the Sudan in exchange for oil, then the situation in Darfur will not change.
Evidence from a videotaped parade last year shows that the Chinese Government are heavily arming the Sudanese government without regard to the atrocities and the genocide committed by them. Read More: China Sells Arms To Sudan.
While the rest of the world sits idly by and does nothing, the Chinese Government is reaping the benefits of a government gone wild.
China has a long history of human rights abuse themselves so it’s no surprise that they would not be a “responsible” weapons seller. Amnesty International has them complicit in human rights violations facilitated by their military equipment in Sudan, Burma aka Myanmar, Nepal and South Africa.
At some point in time we have to stop and say Never Again, but we also have to back it up. We all cringe when we see pictures or videos of what happened in the Holocaust, Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda, the hardest thing to think about is that it all happened in the last century. I’m 48 and 4 out 5 of those atrocities happened in my life time, and we just stood by and let it happen. And now Darfur, are we just going to stand by and let it happen again?
Some celebrities are starting to hold China responsible for their actions, for one Steven Spielberg who was supposed to be an artistic adviser to the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, who pulled out last minute because of the weapons that are being sold to the Sudanese Government. That’s not a bad idea. Holding responsible those that support the one’s responsible for the Genocide.
Now you may ask yourself what can I do, I am just one person. Start by Boycotting Chinese products, yes that may mean no more trips to Walmart. Hit them in the pocket that’s where it hurts them the most, cause they have no shame. Let people know what you are doing and why you are doing it. Tell your friends, your co-workers, your family members, word of mouth is the best advertising, ask them to join you.
It may save a life…
