On Saturday, Ngway Kyar Yan, one of the monasteries that was raided by government troops on Wednesday, was hurriedly cleaned up and restored, prior to the arrival of the UN special envoy Ibrahim Gambari on Monday Oct 1st. New monks were installed at the monastery following the arrests of large numbers of Monks during the raid. According to local residents who watched while armed soldiers guarded outside the monastery, “they are just lying to try to hide the truth, they have lied this way many times in the past, and they are still lying in the present, and they will keep lying in the future to..”
The meeting between Ibrahim Gambari and Junta leader general Than Shwe has taken place, and “was to call on Burmese authorities to cease violent crackdowns on protestors, release those detained and move towards “democratic reform, human rights and national reconciliation”, but no news about the outcome of that meeting is out yet. News is expected after Gambari reports to the UN Secretary General upon his return to New York.

- Arrested Monks have been defrocked, shackled and are possibly being taken away to jails and hard labor camps in the North of the country.
- Some smaller scale protests are still going on in different parts of the country.
- Government discreetly buries killed protesters, then alerts the families of their death.

- The propaganda from the military junta goes on. The Burmese foriegn minister tries to tell the UN that “neo-colonial” forces outside the country are attempting to impose political change.”
- Residents forced to join Government staged Counter-protests.
- Burmese Army troops prompted to defect
- Some 90 Monks released and dropped off at Government sanctioned monastery.

International Bloggers’ Day for Burma on the 4th of October
International bloggers are preparing an action to support the peaceful revolution in Burma. We want to set a sign for freedom and show our sympathy for these people who are fighting their cruel regime without weapons. These Bloggers are planning to refrain from posting to their blogs on October 4 and just put up one Banner then, underlined with the words „Free Burma!“.
