Will the 2 Headed Monster Prevail In South Carolina

As the Democratic Polls open in South Carolina, Barack Obama is in the lead according to the polls in what has become a must win state for him. Not a bad feat considering he has been fighting the “Clinton 2 Headed Monster” all week.

Frustrated by all the attacks made by Bill Clinton, Obama was quoted as saying ” I can’t tell who I am running against sometimes.” They have been clashing bitterly over their records, in the race to represent the Democratic Party. Both sides have been accusing each other of lying and playing dirty tricks. Starting with the Democratic Debate on Monday, where it turned into what looked more like a bad marital dispute than a presidential debate, to the short lived radio ads in SC about Obama supporting Reagan ideas, to Bill Clinton accusing Obama of playing the race card. Obama fought back with his own radio ad, accusing the Clinton’s of twisting his words, and saying that “she will do and say anything to win” The tit for tats have continued everyday since.

While Clinton, Hillary that is, left for two days to campaign in California, Arizona and New Jersey, the second Clinton in command took over the campaign trail in SC and continued actively challenging Obama’s record. Obama spent the week campaigning in SC and trying to shake off the shake down.

Edwards, running a distant third, trying to capitalize on the feud between Obama and the Clinton’s, pointed out to a group on the Campaign trail that while they were trying to knock each other down, he, was trying to build the people of SC up, and he also ran ads that say that he represents the “Grown up wing of the Democratic Party.”

When people’s focus is on the economy, jobs, health care, education, and the war, it’s sad to see two of the main candidates focusing on themselves. How can anyone believe that either of these candidates get past the gridlock in Congress if they cannot even get past the division in their own party. When will presidential candidates learn that people want to know what they will do for them, NOT what they think of the other guy. Play fair.
